Darren’s Taste:

Many non-Floridians call Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, “The Swamp”, but in fact, The Swamp is a restaurant and bar a couple of blocks from the toughest place for a visiting opponent to play college football. The Swamp is known for its cheap beer, great atmosphere, and game day/night parties. Many nights include live music and you are always going to find some sort of drink special. After a recent revamping of the menu, the food is also bearable. On Monday nights, The Swamp is packed with young fraternity and sorority members. Wednesday and Friday nights often attract a decent sized crowd. Whenever there is a home game, the restaurant/bar will be swamped with fans on Friday and Saturday. Even though I don’t drink beer, I recommend the cheap Miller Lite pitchers, which usually run at $5.75. Or you can get a bucket of five bottle beers for the same price.
And you better wear your orange and blue!

For the record, Gainesville is a drinking town with a football problem. But if you must eat, I’d recommend the Swamp’s “Sunday Special: A Swamp Tradition! Juicy chicken tenders tossed in your choice of buffalo sauce and served on a kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, and Provolone Cheese. Served with steak fries. $8.99
